Historic stone posts from the early 1800's still in use today. You will find these in the tall grass prairie of west central Kansas, around Hayes, and the surrounding counties. They were created in the 1800's when settlers need to fence in their land, but there were no trees in the region for making fence posts. As an alternative, bedrock was quarried into fence posts. Through the years erosion and weathering has added a beautiful patina to the posts. The source of this stone is the topmost layer of the Greenhorn Limestone formation.
