In my travels throughout Kansas, I always find myself attracted to the fields of baled hay. They remind me of the "Hay Stacks" painted by Claude Monet in the late 1880’s. His paintings explode with color and vibrancy. I chose to use Monet’s paintings as inspiration for this painting of a Kansas hay bales. This particular painting was inspired by the beauty of the Northern Flint Hills region west and south of Manhattan, Kansas.
For three decades Garry McMichael has been traveling the back roads of Middle America, especially the Ozarks and the Mississippi River basin, capturing its beauty with the camera, charcoals, pastels and paint.
